You can use the camera for years without the waist-level finder. The eye-level prism finder is best IMO if you add the Bronica Speed Grip S which lets you handle the camera like an over-sized 35mm camera.

Is it worth getting the waist-level finder as well (not included)? What are the advantages/disadvantages? I recently received a Zenza Bronica SQ-A with an eye-level finder. Thank you, I just took it out for the first set of test shots today, and we will soon know if I did things correctly! Hope this helps, and enjoy your Bronica.!!! Using the eye-level viewfinder is very much less awkward than the waist-level finder, due to the optics not being reversed In the eye-level finder.

I would install the split-prism focusing screen and leave it at that the split-prism gives you a geometric reference for checking focus.Ĭhanging the focusing screen is easy.unlatch the viewfinder from the camera body and gently pry the screen up and out of the frame in the body, then lay the other screen in place and give it a gentle push to snap it into the frame. The Zenza Bronica SQ-A is a lovely camera I really enjoy mine.

I have not yet figured out how to do screen replacement, but under what cirucmstances would I replace the prism with the regular screen and vice versa? How easy is this to do in the field, or is it something that has to be done before a shoot? Is it worth getting the waist-level finder as well (not included)? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Also, it comes with a split-prism focusing screen but also the original screen is included. Thanks.and sorry about the spelling mistake! I wonder if anyone on this site is interested in selling their WL finder.Ībarrphoto edited this topic 15 months ago.I recently received a Zenza Bronica SQ-A with an eye-level finder.

Each Bronica series has its own waist-level finder. This may have already been addressed.but my question is will any other Bronica waste level finders fit on the SQ-a?Ībarrphoto: No. Thanks for that Howard, will look out for one.

Sorry to ask the question here (if it's not the right place) but will any of the Bronica finders fit or do I need one specific for the SQ-Am?

Hi all just came across, this post by chance- I have taken the plunge and got myself a SQ-Am.

This is my normal use case - I am shooting mainly without tripod and I don't like manual focusing on eye level with heavy cameras. # you can put a small light meter on the speed grip's hot shoe (I am using a Sekonic 208) # carrying the camera with the speed grip is more comfortable # you get the typical lower perspectives of WLF I like the combination of waist level finder AND speed grip. Speed grip is good with the prism.Īnd of course I meant the Chimney finder not tunnel DOH!, never can remember what that call that thing. I use the prism the most and the tower type next, Have never really got used to the waist level but I intend to - just need to use the camera more - I'm new to Medium format myself (well new again - used to have a Russian TLR about 30 years ago but that went south a long time ago). I have the Prism, Waist level and the Tower type. I use it mainly to have a hot shoe and a place to put a flash. The speed grip is mostly useful with the prism. I do own an unmetered prism though, which is good for action-like wildlife-and also for eye level portraits. It makes for a compact light kit to carry around, and I can focus more precisely with the magnifying glass of the WLF. I like the WLF and crank wind most of the time. So that's mainly the difference that I find.Ī waist level finder will also take up less room in your camera bag. To do that with a prism finder you either tilt down skewing the parallels or you need to bend over or kneel down. The waist level is great in that you can shoot with the center frame at the chest level. I'm wondering what people think about each, why they like or don't like one or the other, etc.Īlso, is there any benefit to using a waist level finder with the speed grip?Ĭolin_ME edited this topic 61 months ago. Right now I'm debating between getting a waist level finder or using a prism finder with a speed grip. Hey all, I just bought a used SQ-A with the intent of moving into medium format.
